✨Do you have a "clair"? A short practice to discover how you connect

You hear a familiar word or phrase, or feel a tap on your shoulder, and look around but no one is there. You feel a chill run down your back, or the hair on your neck rise, and a shimmer appears out of the corner of your eye.

An image appears in your mind, crystal clear, of someone you miss dearly.

Somehow you just know that they're present - but to say that out loud? "No way!" your logical mind might respond.

Am I making this up? you might wonder.

You're not.

These are all signs that you have what is called a "clair" - from the French word for light. Most of us have one or two that show up most naturally,  and even taste and smell may make an appearance.

Clairaudience: hearing voices or audible messages, often as if someone is speaking just beside your ear or inside your mind. You might catch your name called when no one is there, hear a phrase that was a favorite of someone who has passed, or receive words that seem to come from nowhere and carry unexpected meaning.

Clairsentience: sensing the energy of those in spirit form through physical or emotional experience. A sudden warmth in your chest, the distinctive scent of someone's perfume or cologne, chills that move through you without a breeze, or an inexplicable wave of emotion that feels like it belongs to someone else.

Clairvoyance: seeing clearly what isn't physically in front of you. This might be an image that appears in your mind's eye, a memory so vivid it seems to carry a message, or a shimmer of movement in your peripheral vision.

Claircognizance: a quiet, certain knowing that arrives without logical explanation. No one told you. Nothing pointed to it. You simply know. This is often the clair people want to dismiss, because it's so quiet it can pass for intuition - which, of course, it is.

Part of deepening your connection is learning to notice which ones speak to you - and to trust them.

Here's a short practice to begin:

  • Find a place to sit comfortably, and take a deep breath in and let it out. Relax your jaw and your shoulders.
  • Place one hand on your heart, and allow someone who has passed to come gently to mind. Don't reach for them - just let the door open, and see who arrives.
  • Notice where in your body you feel that connection. It might be warmth, a softening, a tingling. Rest there. That feeling is a signal. It's also a bridge.
  • From that place, very gently - without effort or expectation - notice what comes. A word, an image, a scent, a quiet knowing. You don't need to analyze it. Just let it be.
  • Whatever arrived, that's your clair saying hello.
  • Jot it down. And then ask yourself: which sense did it come through? That's where you begin.

I'd love to hear back from you how it went, so please share!

In peace,

Johanna
